How to make cute burp cloths for a baby

When Zander and Quentin were little the majority of their burp clothes were plain old white cloth diapers.     I hated that they were so big and plain.   Then after a ton of uses they were so stained.      When Brody came along I chose to make cute burp cloths rather than buying more plain and boring ones.     Honestly they don't take that much time once you figure out what patterns of fabric you want to use.    I made a basket for a friend full of burp cloths in different colors in just a few hours. Adding bling to my cast

I'm happy to be out of that heavy splint and into a nice light weight cast for a couple of reasons.  First of all is because that means I can start walking again soon!  Secondly is that splint was ugly.   Lucky for my the technician who applied my cast felt that all patients should have the look they wanted.   I chose to have pink and black wrapped around.   The lady next to me was getting a light blue and royal blue combination for her favorite MLB team.  As I was getting my cast put on last week my orthopedic surgeon  walked by and commented on the colors and challenged me to put some bling on it.  Since I will be wearing this for the next 5 weeks, I knew I had to make it personal.    I did some searching online and found cast … [Read more...]

Sidewalk paint

Last week the boys and I made sidewalk paint.   It was simple and they had lots of fun with it.   The best part is they weren't restricted on what they could paint since it washes away.   Brody decided to paint all my flowers and the tomatoes.  If you're looking for a way to get your kids to play outside and have fun this is it.    My boys take turns painting the fence and sidewalk and then washing it off.    This is a super cheap and easy craft that can provide hours of entertainment. Sidewalk Paint: 1/2 Cup Cornstarch 1/2 Cup Water Food Coloring empty bottle, cup or bowl to mix it in. I was surprised that homemade sidewalk chalk could be so easy!   Why haven't I tried this before?   The first time I tried it I wasn't expecting the best results.  I was amazed when it was done and the boys gave it a try.   Since then I've made this numerous times for friends and family.    The boys thought it was cool that we made this ourselves.    The quality reminds me of the Crayola Sidewalk chalk that I prefer but, at a fraction of the price.   Sidewalk Chalk 1 Cup Plaster of Paris 3/4 Cup Water Tempera paint (liquid or powder) small paper cups *** This recipe will make enough to fill 5 of the small disposable cups.*** Add the plaster of paris and water to a bowl.  Add enough paint to achieve the color … [Read more...]

Every year I struggle with making New Year's Resolutions. It seems that I make them and by the end of February I forget what they are for the most part. I figure by sharing my resolutions with all of you I will have no choice but to work on them. The best way to be held accountable is sharing! 1. To be healthier. This is always number one on my list! Over the past few years I've worked hard at changing my eating habits so this year I need to include more exercise. While I want to lose weight I want to go about it a smart way by doing slowly through making positive changes so I have more of a chance of keeping it off. I love taking a nice warm bath with scented bath salts but I hate the price of bath salts..   I decided it couldn't be too expensive to make my own.  After making some I realized this would be a great easy and inexpensive gift. What you need: Empty Clean Jar with a lid Epsom Salt Bath Scents or Essential Oil Liquid Glycerin Baking Soda Soap Coloring or food coloring A Bowl Spoon Funnel Tag Ribbon Fabric cut into a circle (size depends on the size of your lid) (I cut the fabric into a square two inches bigger than the lid and then folded it in half to cut out the circle. ) Step 1:  Pour the epsom salt into the jar until it is almost full.   Top off the jar with the baking soda.  (I used 1 1/2 cups espom salt and 1/2 … [Read more...]

Sticky Note Books Tutorial

I've shared before how much I love office supplies.    I have quite the collection of writing utensils and sticky notes.    At last count I  had 30 pads of sticky notes laying around.     I was feeling inspired one day and decided to turn those pads into sticky note books to give away as gifts.   The make a great addition into a gift basket with some pens.   They're also great to keep in your purse or vehicle to take notes.  I always make sure to have some on hand!
